As the world grapples with the impact of climate change, the need for renewable energy has become more pressing than ever before. One such form of energy is solar power, which has seen a significant increase in its use in recent years. However, with this increase in demand comes the need for a skilled and trained solar workforce to install and maintain solar panels.
The Solar Industry is Growing
Indeed, the solar industry is one of the fastest-growing industries in the world. The International Renewable Energy Agency has estimated that the industry could employ as many as 18 million people by 2030. However, the lack of skilled workers in the industry has become a major obstacle to its growth. To address this issue in Central Florida, an area with abundant sunshine, environmental nonprofit IDEAS For Us is partnering with solar company 15 Lightyears. The partners have created a solar workforce training! This program provides workers with the skills and knowledge necessary to install and maintain solar panels. Furthermore, students will graduate knowing how to design and manage solar projects.

Growing the Green Workforce
Now, the partners are offering FREE educational classes and events that provide exclusive certificates in solar energy. All courses are offered separately, and you can achieve between 1 and 7 certificates based on your interests in the field. Six of the courses are offered online, and the final certificate will be given in May at an in-person solar installation at Infinite Zion Farms in Orlando. The program will end in late May with a networking event involving participants and companies in the solar industry.
