History of Giving Tuesday and its Global Importance

Imagine a world where everyone comes together to make a difference. A world where generosity and compassion shine brighter than consumerism. This is the essence of Giving Tuesday, a global movement that inspires individuals, organizations, and businesses to join forces and support charitable causes. Today, we invite you to join us in supporting IDEAS For Us, an innovative organization dedicated to environmental action projects in 14 countries.

Origins and History ─ A Call for Change

In 2012, a collaboration between the 92nd Street Y in New York City and the United Nations Foundation sparked the inception of Giving Tuesday. Fueled by the need to counterbalance the commercialization of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, this movement sought to redefine the holiday season. IDEAS For Us emerged around this same time as a beacon of hope, championing environmental sustainability as a core focus for Giving Tuesday.
