School gardens are more than just green spaces—they are powerful engines for student success. Research shows that students who participate in garden-based learning experience higher science achievement, improved mental resilience, increased physical activity, and healthier eating habits. During high-stress periods like the COVID-19 pandemic, individuals who gardened just 1–4 hours per week demonstrated significantly greater emotional resilience. In schools, these programs are helping students become more engaged, more curious, and more connected—to their food, their environment, and each other. By bringing learning outdoors, school gardens are cultivating not only plants, but stronger minds and more sustainable futures.
