Pakistan Branch

About This Branch

IDEAS For Us Pakistan was launched in 2022 with the goal of bringing environmental action to the region of Punjab. Our branch leader and founder, Muhammad Ajlal, is working to mobilize his community in eco action projects, with a focus on the needs of his community. The branches projects include tree plantings in urban spaces, disaster relief, and waste removal and ecosystem revitalization. The Pakistan Branch works in Universities to empower students to be leaders in the environmental movement and provides them with opportunities to take hands on action to combat climate change and help their community.

Environmental Challenges

  • Air pollution; Lahore is in the top 15 most polluted cities in the world.
  • Urbanization and lack of biodiversity.

More about the community

Punjab hosted the “Indus Valley Civilization”: one of the oldest civilizations in the world, and it has a very rich culture and language. Punjab is famous for its rivers and fertile land and the people of Punjab (Punjabis) love to eat spicy foods. Punjab is one of the five provinces of Pakistan, it is the largest province of Pakistan in terms of population: more than 50 percent population of Pakistan lives in Punjab. It is the backbone of Pakistan’s economy, it contributes around 50 percent of the total GDP of Pakistan. IDEAS Pakistan is currently operating in the region of Central Punjab which is the most intensively populated and industrialized area of Pakistan which is why it has bad environmental conditions i.e., severely affected by air and water pollution.

Branch Goals

IDEAS Pakistan is operating in the region of Central Punjab which is Pakistan’s most intensively populated and industrialized area that is why this region has the worst environmental conditions, especially since the air and water quality have severely deteriorated.

With an aim to achieve SDG Goal no. 3 (Good health & Well Being) and SDG goal no. 15 (Life on Land) and SDG Goal no. 13 (Climate Action), IDEAS Pakistan is focusing to organize mass reforestation projects in different cities of Central Punjab so that the bad air and water quality could be mitigated.

Moreover, in order to achieve SDG Goal no. 1 (No Poverty) and SDG goal no. 2 (Zero Hunger), and SDG Goal no. 13 (Climate Action), we also aim to plant fruit trees and install Community Gardens in public places, e.g., public schools, so that the poor children and people of the community could have access to fresh and nutritious fruits.

In order to achieve SDG goal no. 6 (Clean Water & Sanitation) and SDG Goal no. 10 (Reduced Inequalities), IDEAS Pakistan aims to install water filtration plants, all over the country, in the communities most affected by water pollution. Around 70 percent of Pakistan’s population has no access to clean and treated drinking water.

In order to achieve SDG goal no. 15 (Life on Land) and SDG Goal no. 3 (Good Health & Well Being) and SDG Goal no. 13 (Climate Action), IDEAS Pakistan aims to organize monthly garbage cleaning drives to make this world a clean, healthy, equal, and dignified place to live.
