About IDEAS For Us - Ghana

IDEAS For Ghana has conducted research focusing on the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) and has implemented 15 community projects and 20 youth and students innovations under the fives pillars of sustainability with an International UNLEASH Gold Water Awards and two national awards.

 

IDEAS For Ghana, since 2017, has collaborated with Hubs in Ghana to organize Impact Learning Journey which brings together students, volunteers, and change makers worldwide to co-create and collaborate on community and global solutions in Ghana. 

Founded in 2012 by Emmanuel Marfo (now IDEAS For Ghana Country Director and African Director)  with Diana Cudjoe as Programs and Community Manager.

Top Environmental Challenges

  • Deforestation in the mining areas
  • Poor sanitation in schools
  • Lack of access to clean water
  • Unstable power supply affecting the hub and churches operations
  • Lack of toilet facilities causing open defecation in communities

Founded in 2012 by Emmanuel Marfo (now IDEAS For Ghana Country Director and African Director) with Diana Cudjoe as Programs and Community Manager.

Support Action Projects in Ghana

Project 1: Community Garden Installation

Goal: Many locals are in need of fresh produce and building a garden will allow hands-on experience for the entire community to enjoy/learn from.

 

Objective 1: Build a small community garden and supply the tools/ materials needed to educate the next generation of local growers.

Project 2: Tree Planting and Care Project

Goal: Helping reduce greenhouse gasses and fight climate change. Limit emission and sequestering carbon through tree plantings.Improving the quality of the natural environment 

Objective 1:  Restore the ecosystem by adding more soil.

Objective 2: Facilitate erosion control.

Project 3: Neighborhood Clean Up

Goal: Pollution is a challenge in many remote areas in Ghana, but providing materials to support frequent cleanups will spread awareness while diminishing the waste clutter on rural streets.

 

Objective 1: Purchase materials to facilitate community cleanups which will help residents in recycling efforts.

Project 4: SOLAwash station

Goal: Provide materials to young girls in order to construct homemade sanitary pads to avoid missing school due to their menstrual cycles.

 

Objective: Help at least 1,000 girls learn how to properly utilize menstrual pads and construct them at home.

Project 5: IDEAS Hive Support in Ghana

Goal: Educate and provide curriculum to local schools in Bukavu in order to bring a focus to the environmental detriments facing the nation while incorporating global challenges.

 

Objective: Pilot the new curriculum and educational training to two schools.
