Solar-Powered Irrigation System

This Eco-Action Project will Focus on Energy and Food

Partnering with L.E. Rigby Innovations and 15 Light Years to train the next generation of solar workforce.


Objective: Create a rain barrel irrigation system on a solar pump and adding a solar fan to the greenhouse of a school for children with disabilities.

Goal: Invite 15 participants to apply for a full comprehensive training on growing your own food and the basics of solar 101 while discussing why renewable energy is an important need for the health of the environment. Unlocking Children’s Potential is a Charter School network serving students with disabilities.

Agenda: This is a free event needed to introduce students into the Solar Industry. Lunch will be provided. 15 participants maximum. First come, first serve basis.

Time: 10 am – 2 pm on Friday, October 25th, 2019

In addition to the installation, participants will benefit from a one-on-one educational experience around how clean and renewable energy plays a crucial role in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the Green Works Orlando Community Action Plan.

  • Must be comfortable working outside with tools and small equipment.
  • No background solar education/certification needed
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must sign non-disclosure, media release and volunteer waiver
  • Must attend the full four hours of the workshop
  • Must live in Central Florida
October 19th is the deadline to apply. The event will take place on Friday, October 25th from 10 am – 2 pm and will cover the following topics:
  • Solar Energy 101
  • Hydroponic systems
  • Sustainable agriculture
  • Overview of the U.S. and Florida Energy Solar Industry
  • Engineering and Construction Process for Solar Photovoltaic Systems (hands on)
  • Financing and Economics of Solar Photovoltaic Systems
  • Sustainable Development Goal #7: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all
  • Green Works Orlando and the 2018 Community Action Plan
