Meet the Newest IDEAS Fellow, Evodius Rutta from Tanzania
IDEAS For Us is honored to welcome Evodius Rutta to Central Florida as the 2014 IDEAS Community Solutions Fellow from the U.S. Department Of State Program implemented by IREX. He will be living in the home of Executive Director Clayton Louis Ferrara, just as Stephen B. Lavalah from Liberia did in 2013. An experienced field biologist, Rutta is from Tanzania and during his time in America he’ll be getting a close look on the inner workings of the IDEAS movement as well as to help the organization continue its work in creating sustainable solutions.
“We’re very happy to have Rutta here with us for 4 months. He’s here to learn from us- but more importantly, we’re here to learn from him” -Clayton Louis Ferrara, IDEAS Executive Director
As the Founder and Executive Director of Tanzania Youth Environmental Network (TAYEN), a youth led organization that addresses local environmental problems, Evodius Rutta coordinates and manages TAYEN programs, including community tree planting to address deforestation, youth climate change education projects both in and outside of schools, educating local communities on the impact of climate change, and developing social entrepreneurship programs.
Tanzania Youth Environmental Network (TAYEN) was founded in 2006 at University of Dar es Salaam and registered as a non-governmental organization on August 25, 2008 under Tanzania Non-Governmental Organization Act of 2002.
TAYEN conducts environmental education programs in primary, secondary schools as well as in colleges and Universities in Tanzania. Their mission is raising awareness to youth on environmental problems facing Tanzania and the world; aiming to get as many children in primary, secondary schools and in higher learning institutions participate actively in environmental conservation initiatives.
