EPA To Set New Standards for Carbon Pollution, IDEAS Shows Support

As part of President Obama’s initiative to fight climate change, the Environmental Protection Agency will unveil a sweeping proposal that will require deep cuts in carbon emissions from existing power plants. In the video below, the president discussed new actions by the EPA, a plan that builds on the efforts already taken by many states, cities and companies.

In early May 2014, the White House and Obama Administration published the 3rd National Climate Assessment, a staggering comprehensive overview of climate change and it’s effects on the United States. The facts cannot be refuted and we are no longer talking about predictions; our climate is changing, and we’re feeling the dangerous and costly effects today.

Power plants are the largest source of carbon pollution in the U.S. Although there are limits for other pollutants like arsenic and mercury, there are currently no national limits on carbon — the greenhouse gas causing the majority of the changing climate being witnessed across the country and around the World.

From heat waves, floods and droughts to sea level rise, loss of biodiversity, and the melting of our permafrost and ice caps; states across the country are witnessing unprecedented weather events never before seen in human history.

American businesses have already charted a course toward cleaner, more efficient power. Thanks to the new flexible proposal for carbon pollution standards on existing power plants by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), we can cut carbon pollution, while still having all the power we need to grow our economy.

IDEAS For Us fully supports the efforts of the EPA’s decision to begin regulating externalities that are affecting our air, our water, and our climate. We believe these standards will lay the necessary foundation to build a cost-effective renewable energy future, now and for generation to come.
